Why are we issuing a VAT invoice? 

As the invoice corresponds to services organised and provided in France by Ovalie Développement 3, the VAT exemption which would apply for goods exported to a EU country does not apply. 

Hence VAT must be applied. 


How to get a VAT refund?
 

If you are an EU eligible company, VAT refund can be obtained (under certain conditions) through the VAT Refund System.

As an indication as it may vary from one country to the other, here is what the process could look like: 


Procedure to Recover VAT via the VAT Refund System
 

  1. Verify Eligibility: 
  2. Ensure your company is eligible for VAT refund. You must be a VAT-registered business in your home country and not established in France. 
  3. Gather Necessary Documents: 
  4. Original invoices with French VAT indicated. 
  5. Proof of payment for the services rendered. 
  6. Your company’s VAT number. 
  7. Access the Electronic Portal: 
  8. Log in to the electronic portal of your home country’s tax administration. 
  9. Submit the Refund Application: 
  10. Complete the online refund application form. Provide detailed information about the invoices, including VAT amounts paid and codes for goods/services. 
  11. Submit the application before September 30th of the year following the year in which the VAT was paid. 
  12. Transmit the Application: 
  13. Your national tax administration will verify your application and forward it to the French tax administration. 
  14. Follow Up on the Application: 
  15. The French tax administration will review your application and may request additional information if needed. 


Important Points to Note
 

  • Non-refundable Expenses: Certain expenses, such as restaurant or entertainment costs, may not be eligible for refund in some countries. 
  • Goods/Services Codes: Use standard codes to describe the types of goods/services for which VAT was paid.
